Sweat Lodge

Sweat Lodge

This is the medicine of the four directions and the four elements, fire, earth, air and water. A ceremony of care and spiritual, physical, mental and emotional purification, whose main purpose is that of reunification.

My main style is of North American Indian of the Lakota Tradition, called Inipi Ceremony.

In the centre of the lodge is a hole dug out to receive rocks that have been heated in the wood fire outside for at least 2-3 hours. Water is placed on the stones, inside the lodge by the Lodge Pourer, to create steam, the breath of The Great Creator.

The Sweat Lodge is related to purification, astrology and the life gestation process. The entire lodge symbolises a womb. Each element has a special meaning. The fire represents the Sun, which gives its energy to the earth. The alter outside symbolises medicines. The centre of the lodge represents the Earth that gives us life and welcomes Us.

The Ceremony itself represents the pregnancy of the woman and that is why when one comes out of the Lodge, once purified, we say that we have been reborn.

One of the main teachings of the Lakota as well as many other indigenous cultures is that we are all related. Humans, Animals, Vegetables, Minerals, the elements, Mother Earth, Father Sky. We are all part of a great family that must be respected and honoured and therefore prays mainly for the re-establishment of harmony of all members. Aho.
